They thoroughly scouted both Granlund brothers, because they both played for the same teams, and frequently on the same lines, before they were drafted by their respective clubs. The only team in North America that knows more about Marcus Granlund is Calgary.
Also, there is proven chemistry between the brothers when put on the same line, where Marcus plays the wing. These two are closer in respect to the Sedins than the Staals, in terms of being complementary players.
I understand what you are saying, in instances when a brother is picked up to play with a clubs affiliate as a negotiation technique when dealing with a core player, but in this case Marcus actually holds quite a bit of value on his own. He is also an easy sell to a fan base that expects a lot out of their team, which is why this particular player holds more value to Minnesota, than say Dallas.
