I think it really depends on how you use forums. I can see what they were trying to do and for some forums or people it probably works great.
But for how most of our users probably use the forum (including me), it's worse than terrible. It took me five minutes just to figure out how to get to different forums.
Good opportunity for someone to come in with a new product.
