Would it ever be possible to perform a sign-and-trade in the NHL?
Honestly, I don't even really understand the term but I think it comes from the NBA when a player's current team signs him so his contract is no longer in an unknown status (Like Glencross going UFA after this year) and then they trade him.
I know there's still the no-movement-clause to deal with and I'm not even suggesting this is a good option. Just throwing it out there...why not give Glencross the deal he deserves (just under $5M for three more years) and THEN trade him? If he's only worth a 2nd rounder now, would that increase it to a 1st rounder? Seems like the Flames would be managing their asset better than what happened with Cammy?
Is there some CBA reason that NHLers don't get signed-and-traded?
