It actually pains me to give an Oiler the benefit of the doubt, but let's not forget that Stajan is good being on the receiving end of these at least once per season. I can't remember the last time a player that is consistently victimized like he is. The sad thing is that he usually ends up disappearing for a while afterwards.
Seriously, there should be a Hitting Matt Stajan Youtube channel (some of these are pretty similar to the hit last night).

I would buy a lot more of what you were saying if Stajan had position of the puck or had it. No way stepping up and derailing a defenceless player without the puck is fine. I don't blame Aulie, but he's guilty once Stajan never touches the puck
