Once the hammer is cocked, there is a lot less force needed to pull the trigger versus not having it cocked. With the hammer cocked, it is very feasible that a toddler could exert enough force to fire.
A stock Glock, not equipped with NY1 or NY2 trigger kit, would take about 6lbf to fire. For some, the downside to the Glock is the lack of a safety catch, instead relying on a catch on the trigger needing to be depressed while firing. The Glock is nice because it is drop proof, but some would probably like an external safety on it.
