I don't think you can count on an unproven guy to replace one of our vets who is actually producing.
But I agree with your general point. Granlund is almost certainly going down when Backlund is cleared to play. But what Granlund has proven is that we could move a veteran centre - or even Granlund himself - as part of a deal to improve with a young defenceman capable of growing into a 3/4 role.
I won't presume to guess whether such deals would exist, but we are in a unique situation where we can move certain vets whether we are in the playoff race or not.
