I've been to Denver for a Flames game and it is a great place to visit and catch a hockey game. I would recommend against driving to the Pepsi Center because traffic in and out of the stadium is terrible. Find a hotel downtown. There is free transit that runs along 16th Street between Union Station and Broadway and will easily get you to the Pepsi Center.

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt and caught the 16th Street shuttle to and from the rink.
