I think the Flames will qualify for the playoffs. The 7 game losing streak was unfortunate, but fortunately it happened in December, not March, and the team can learn from the mistake along that streak, and ultimately gel into a better team. The Flames have now managed to get 5 of possible 6 points, in their last 3 games, so I think the turnaround has begun. In 1985-85, the Flames also lost 11 in a row in December-January, and ended up finishing strong, and eventually advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals. Even more coincidental is the record they had before the losing skid began: 17-8-3.
As for the playoff picture, here is how it stands today:
Central:
1. CHICAGO (50)
2. NASHVILLE (48)
3. ST.LOUIS (45)
Pacific:
1. ANAHEIM (51)
2. LOS ANGELES (43)
3. SAN JOSE (43)
Wild Card:
1. WINNIPEG (45)
2. VANCOUVER (42)
3. CALGARY (41)
4. MINNESOTA (36)
5. DALLAS (35)
6. COLORADO (34)
I still think the Jets and Flames are the most likely tams to secure a playoff birth as wild card teams.
