I live there and like it. It's quiet and really close to the city. Access to 3 good ways to get into the city, and close to Stoney Trail as well.
Pretty much zero for restaurants at this point, Boston Pizza and a few pub type places. One of the Vietnamese places is not bad. Some fast food places.
Safeway, Shoppers Drug Mart, and a No Frills for shopping. A WalMart recently opened on the outskirts of Calgary between there and Chestermere, so that's convenient too.
It is on the east side so if you want to go anywhere upscale, as mentioned, it's a longer drive.
People are pretty nice, but not really a small town kind of people IMO.
Not sure what kinds of things you're looking for.
