C/RW Mitch Marner 5'11'' 163lbs
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=223194- really creative player - really smart player
- fantastic puck skills
- watched him in minor midget and he was really small, certainly didn't think NHL draft at the time
- really well rounded player
- recently was with a NHL scout who watched Marner for the first time. Scout said that you rarely see a player that good backcheck that hard.
- thinks size will come - Marner's brother was really late growing. Brother is now 6'2''
- he is so good, that he won't need the protoypical size to play in the NHL
- not really worried about his size - have him ranked at 5
C/LW Pavel Zacha 6'3'' 203lbs
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=130786- in all my viewings he has been great in a Sarnia uniform
- have him at 4
- plays a really physical game
- another smart player, great vision and playmaking skills, and backs it up with size and skating
- NHL scouts earlier in the season just loved him
RW Mikko Ranatanen 6'3'' 194lbs
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=91186- liked him at the u18s
- our scout in Finland says Rantanen has either been really good or really off
- hanging at the bottom of our 1st round rankings - if he doesn't get more consistency soon he may fall out of the 1st round
- big kid, likes how he goes to the net - busts through traffic
- kind of on and off using his size and sometimes invisible shift to shift
- when he is on, you really like what you see - controlling pucks, winning pucks and battling
C/RW Roope Hintz 6'2'' 183lbs
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=92117- kind of came out of nowhere, hasn't been in Finland's national program until now
- one of the surprises right now
- good work down low - goes into the dirty areas
- smart player - their Finnish scout raves about his playmaking ability
- have him rated as a 2nd rounder in their last report to teams
G Michael McNiven 6'1'' 185lbs
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=238745- kind of reminds him of Flames prospect Mason McDonald
- McDonald was raw and poised kid - that is what McNiven reminds him of
- in AAA he was just a big kid that stopped pucks, never had any goaltending training at all
- had a fantastic season in Junior A after his agent got him hanging around pro goalies
- glove is really good
- really good recovery
- anticipates plays well
- lots of talk about him among NHL scouts
D Matthew Spencer 6'2'' 194lbs
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=225188- wouldn't have taken him 3rd in the OHL draft like Peterborough did
- didn't make smart decisions in his OHL draft year
- was pretty good in Hlinka
- viewing this year have left me wanting more - decision making is still not there
- he is into the 2nd round for us
- has all the tools and can skate
- much like Roland Mckeown, it comes down to decision making. (They had McKeown in the 3rd round last year while others had McKeown in the 1st)
C Dylan Strome 6'3' 187lbs
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=228107- first time ever watching Dylan Strome - his skating was extremely bad
- no one is going to call him elite skater but it is impressive how far his skating has come since his OHL draft year
- he competes all over the place, pretty smart in his own zone
- excellent playmaker - guys beg to be on his line
- McDavid injury kind of a good thing for Strome, as he continued to produce even though he and McDavid play on different lines even strength
