It's frickin funny how everyone's talking Hart and Norris trophies and making the playoffs when a quarter of the season barely played out; and now, the mention of McDavid is starting to come back up. Seriously, the way I see it, if they hit bottom 5 this year, the rebuild will be better going forward than sitting in the midst of a playoff hunt. The harder the Flames fall this season, the better it is. It's damn disgusting when you hear people talk about how bad this team is when it's still rebuilding in the early stages. This team reminds me a lot of the Young Guns era, except without a franchise player in the lineup. There are some good pieces and they're mostly winning by one or losing by one. If they rush through this rebuild, they're going to always be one or two players away from a good rebuild and as a true cup contender.
Because right or wrong, the team upped expectations. Even the most grounded fan who expected the team to come back to earth likely didn't expect the results to become embarrassing. 7 in a row is hard to do, it's epically bad. Even if people though they'd come down from the high, the early part of the season gave hope that maybe the rebuild wouldn't have to take 4 or 5 years, that maybe we were a head of schedule. Pulling this incredible losing streak off has proven that the first part of the season wasn't just a little over achieving, it was completely un-realistic and this team is still years away from a sniff.
