Very few NHL defencemen have been moved at all this year, and none of them in exchange for guys like Eberle and Yakupov. You have to give up quality to get quality.
Unfortunately for the Oilers, MacTavish seems to believe the official party line, which is that the current young stars are just the 80s’ dynasty waiting to happen all over again. In their minds, they are not trading a one-dimensional winger to plug a gaping hole on the blue line or in the net. They think they are trading the next Jari Kurri. Nobody is going to make a deal with them at that price.
