As for Staal and Staal, Eric turned 30 about 6 weeks ago, and Jordan is 26 working through a broken leg. Eric's salary is more than his cap hit. Jordan is signed at $6 per for another 9 years or so. Again, is the owner looking to get out from under those contracts? If they are, we are one of the few teams that can be in the market to do something.

I can see Jordon Staal as a player the Flames would target. Management seems intent on getting bigger up front. Staal is 6'4" and 220. He's under 27. Great on the PK. But that's an awfully tough contract to swallow for a guy whose ceiling is 50 pts. And paying a 2nd/3rd line centre that kind of dough would throw the Flames salary structure completely out of whack. Still, it wouldn't surprise me if Treliving were sniffing around Carolina.
