- Signing Hiller. The Flames needed another capable starter until Ortio is ready to make the jump. Treliving managed to it without having to sign a UFA goalie to a long-term deal.
- Signing Mason Raymond. Raymond isn't a perfect player but he helps replace some of the lost production from Cammalleri leaving.

The Bad:
- Trading for Bollig. Turned out to be a bad move in hindsight. He seems too slow for what the Flames are trying to do. Your coach has made him a healthy scratch in favour of younger players. Might not be able to reclaim the 3rd rounder the Flames traded for him. With McGrattan most likely gone next season having Bollig as the 13th or 14th forward next season wouldn't be terrible.

The Ugly:
- Nothing. He hasn't made any big mistakes to this point.

The Meh:
- Signing Setoguchi. I thought it was unnecessary at the time, but his willingness to send him down to the AHL makes this a no harm signing.
- Signing Engelland. Yes he's grossly overpaid, but that's not a negative in the Flames cap situation. The problem with Engelland is that he should be the #7 guy and not the #6 defenseman. Too slow to be a every day player.
- Signing Bouma and Byron in the off-season. Coming from the outside the organization he could have easily have let them walk for nothing. Both players have proven to be useful to the team.
Agreed, but would place Bouma and Byron at the bottom of the good column. Not earthshattering moves, but necessary ones which have turned our well. If the Bollig move is the worst move you have made (which i think it is), that is a pretty good sign.

Notwithstanding the other thread title, I don't see any big moves this year (maybe at the draft). Sign Hartley, manage the kids and deal with Glencross are really all I see on the horizon.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.
