they would certainly be part of the discussion. There would have to be compelling off ice reasons to keep them, such as:
leadership and positive influence on young players on what it means to be a pro;
Liklihood of losing them on waivers and whether there is a suitable 13th forward or 7th defenceman replacement.
For example, I don't think anyone would argue that it is better long term for Wotherspoon to be playing in the AHL right now than spending night after night in the press box like Diaz.
