In Alberta, climbing the curb onto the sidewalk is an instafail of the driver's exam as it breaks a traffic law. Or it was many years ago when I was taking drivers ed. You also had to pass each component, so if you just blew the parallel park in a routine way, you were docked points and told to do it again.
