Uber is an interesting one.

When it comes to Calgary specifically they've done an excellent job positioning themselves as being the "saviour" from tyranny of the current taxi cartel. For that I must tip my hat, just some masterful PR maneuvering on their part.

They've done such an great job of this that it's almost impossible to talk about Calgary's taxi industry without it being a discussion about Uber. It's not "taxis VS car hailing services", it's "taxis VS uber".

But as others have pointed out they are quite the scummy operation, and their management seems to take a "win at all cost" approach to competition. Many times crossing well over the line of what a normal person or business would consider ethical.
