I'm not sure about in Alberta, but in BC, you could theoretically fail the parallel parking component (i.e. climb the curb, get the applicable demerit points) but still pass the test. But I definitely agree with the notion of testing parking in a parking lot during testing. It is painful watching some people getting into and out of parking spots.
