I'm not sure the Oilers in the early 80s or the pond hockey that occurred back then has a ton of relevance today. Winning the cup while getting outshot in the regular season was fairly commonplace in the '80s but there's a reason it has happened once in the last 25 or so years.

Never mind that raw shot numbers don't include any kind of context for ES vs special teams and perhaps more importantly score effects. When you outscore your opponents by almost 2 goals a game there's a lot of time playing with the lead which is a situation even the best teams struggle to maintain an even shot differential.
