Moose on the Loose... at Marlborough Mall
Quote:
Police have confirmed one moose was euthanized and a second remains on the loose in northeast Calgary Friday.
“They were very mobile and agitated,” said Brendan Cox, public affairs officer with the Alberta Justice and Solicitor General department. “There were a couple of fairly close calls … with a moose getting close to people in the area.”
Det. Jody Cross said police first located a moose wandering the streets of a northeast neighbourhood at about 5:30 a.m. Staying inside the cruiser, they followed it as it made it’s way to Malborough Mall.
Fish and Wildlife officers attempted to tranquilize the moose, but were unsuccessful. It ended up in a Malborough backyard where it was shot.
“Unfortunately it was put down, our officers certainly had a tough decision to make in this circumstance, but they did have to make it quickly,” Cox said.
The second moose, which is still “on the loose,” was last seen running up and down the train tracks in the 600 block of 17th Avenue SE.
“It’s certainly our hope that the second one can be tranquilized successfully,” Cox said.
