Besides, it's a stupid superstition. Tampa Bay was the best team in the league that year and we were a missed call away from winning it all. Can't ask for more than that. In fact, considering how well we played in the playoffs against elite opponents, despite a slightly better than average regular season, I'd say we were the ones with a horseshoe planted firmly up our butts.

a. You can't say they played well and then say they had horseshoes. Yes, they beat top teams, but they did it over 6 and 7 games every time, and they did by, as you say, playing well.
b. I think Detroit was the best team in the league that year. Finished first in points in a tougher conference. Had better top to bottom forwards (though TB had a dynamite few top end guys) and better defence (sorry Cory). I'd give TB the edge in goaltending though.
