He started as a peripheral energy player and kind of fell into 1st line LW by happenstance(maybe too light a word). It wasn't more than 2 years ago he was behind tanguay and cammy when they werent playing C. granted, he is playing much better competition most nights because of the 1st line duties. he's really good and has heart but doesnt match up against the best of the best and he's always been at his best as a secondary energy guy who puts up points
his role might be better suited on a team that has elite scoring already, but the flames also do have a lot of cap room and 3 years until they need to pay monahan, gaudreau, colborn and granlund
