Ice baths. Fill up your sink or bathtub deep enough that you can cover 3/4 of your arm and hand with cold water and some ice cubes and soak your arm in it for 10 minutes or as long as you can stand. The bathtub method is awkward, but the ice baths are effective.
Ice massage is also helpful Fill a paper cup full of water and toss it in a freezer. Once frozen, peel paper off of the top of the cup and use the ice to make circles and massage where the bruised and swollen area's are. Leave enough paper on the cup so you can hold onto it without your hands getting too cold.
If you aren't allergic, Ibuprofen is an excellent anti-inflammatory and would help bring down the swelling. You don't need a high dose (200mg is probably more then enough) but it does help with reduction of swelling for deeper tissue/muscle injuries that aren't responding to ice.
