The Tanguay trade was addition by subtraction. If you think we have a log jam at LW now, imagine if Tanguay was still here. Getting a serviceable, brittle and overpaid RW for a self described mopey LW is at least a wash.

Sarich for O'Brien might not have been a great trade, but IMO sometimes a trade involves such marginal pieces, that it doesn't matter if you win it or lose it. Sure Sarich was playing top 4 minutes with the Avs, but the Avs didn't have a very good defense. Saying we lost the trade because Sarich was top 4 in Colorado is like saying we should have traded Butler for a 1st rounder because he's been playing on the top pairing for the Flames.

And the JBo trade has to be measured against the possible outcomes... he could have played out his contact here and signed elsewhere as a free agent. We got something for him, maybe we could have got more in return, but IMO not a whole lot more. And we got more for him than I would have thought was possible 6-12 months earlier.

Both those trades are OK, not really wins, not really losses.

Now the Berra trade, that one was a big win.
