Just because cp thought jbo should be bought out the year before means nothing. The year he was traded he was playing great and was looking better than Gio at the time.
The only people I can think of that thinks it was a fair trade are posters on cp that figure flames don't make bad trades.

Losing Bouw was great in the end because it allowed top line minutes for Brodie and Gio.
The guy had such top notch skills in certain areas (skating, really, plus maybe conditioning that allowed him to play so many minutes) ... but did not have the strength, smarts, fire and compete. He was a smooth skating wallflower.
Remember, he came from a loser team in Florida, where, like Luongo, and Olli, the idea was that they were star players buried on an unfortunate team and were highly slight after. After years of underachieving in a quasi competitive team with mediocre coaching, Hartley put him in a position to reclaim trade value.
Not a game changer, that is for sure. The JBouw trade benefitted the Flames.
