What made Berra special was his leg speed. Clint Malarchuk, Hartley and Cloutier all thought his leg-speed and athleticism was incredible (not just 'good' - incredible), especially for his size. Berra is a bit of a freak of nature. He was also such a competitive guy and apparently such a 'good guy', it was hard not to cheer for him.
He is 28 and not 20, so he has time is not really on his side. However, that 3 year deal will hopefully allow him the time to fix his style of play. If they manage to correct Berra's fundamentals (over-aggressive at times and lose the net, positioning is often poor and often has to make a crazy save to compensate) he will be a fantastic goalie. Feel bad for the guy, and I still wish him well and try to follow his development a bit - but hope he has his worst games every time the Flames play him
