I know I was against having him on the team due to how he looked playing for the Flames, but when I looked more into his hockey past, I perhaps overlooked a few things.
Having an "old guy" on the team with NHL experience and being a high draft pick (8th overall in 2005) like Setoguchi is, would be invaluable to a young team of guys who were first round picks or highly touted prospects. He understands the struggle of being a high pick and the pressures put on you to perform at the level your draft number shows that maybe didn't live up to his expectations (or overwhelmed by them) and while I don't wish that on any of our prospects, realistically it will happen to a few of them and having a guy on the team they can talk to or can offer advice about dealing with it has some benefit. Plus, Seto has had success followed by trips to the ECHL back to the NHL, so he's hope for guys being sent down to the ECHL that it isn't game over.
Hopefully Seto turns into this years Shane O'Brien story. By most accounts SOB took his demotion well and ended up stepping up as a leader and mentor to the young guys when he easily could have stomped off having a temper tantrum. Not saying he didn't have his nights when it looked like it, but the good outnumbered the bad.
