personally I wish Devin all the best and hope that he goes down to the AHL and finds again what he has lost. It's easy to say "the guy just fed off Thornton", but let's not forget that he was still a 20 goal, 40 point scorer in Minnesota for two seasons. I hope he regains confidence and scores a ton in the AHL so that he can earn another NHL contract somewhere or can get a great offer from Europe.
I liked the signing when it was done and I still do. It was a no risk move and an insurance in case the young guys weren't ready. At the time, no one expected Josh Jooris to be an NHL player in whatever role. Michael Ferland had nearly missed a whole season because of injury while Markus Granlund was recovering from a season-ending injury as well. No one expected all those guys to step up like that and play their way onto the team like they did, so signing Setoguchi as a safety net was a smart move. It just didn't pan out and it's the right call by the Flames to move on.
Good luck Devin. Too bad it didn't work out.
