Money always plays a part regardless of the player. Can't fault him for taking the money as it's business. IMO his friendship with Sakic likely played a big role in him signing with the Avs. That said from the Avs point of view it was a terrible contract as they are paying a lot of money for a guy that will likely score 20-25 goals and not offer anything in the way of 2-way play and things will probably really look bad in the last year of the deal. It's possible they brought him in to mentor the younger players which I am lukewarm after seeing the positive shift in the culture in the Flames locker room after he was moved.
