One of the best parts of the original was seeing the dinosaurs you've always learned about brought to life in the movie.
This. The wonder of that scene when Grant and that other chick first see the Brachiosaurus encapsulates what that movie was for me. I was a total Dinosaur nerd when I was a kid. Also some great action sequences that still stand up today were in that movie. The philosophical\sciency stuff elevated it from a money making machine to a credible blockbuster. For those reasons, I hesitate a tad with the whole monster thing. Love the cast though.

Yup, I remember thinking that. Raptors had a more narrow snout, the head of the movie version is almost a complete copy of the head of a Deinonychus (aside from the whole feather thing). It didn't really bother me a whole bunch though, an accurate Raptor isn't perfect for hollywood and the name Deinonychus wouldn't have worked at all in the movie.

I wonder how many people even knew what a Velociraptor was prior to Jurassic Park, and they almost became the stars of the whole movie.

Also after the 4th viewing, I just realized the single note piano bit was the original score.

As an aside, I think the blue lens filter may be every directors' favorite thing these days.
