I don't think a player loses hockey IQ from one season to the next.
He has had some struggles at time this year but I attribute it to him being 20 years old and playing as a number 1/2 centre - he's being assigned to shut down the top centres in the league. It's a huge jump from his role last year and he needs to learn - it has nothing to do with hockey IQ.
I think he's done quite well, all things considered.
