They talked about him being former black ops, former Blackwater. So for a military type guy to walk into an obvious trap like that is simply lazy writing. He would sit on the house for at least a few days to see who's coming in and out, if anyone. Instead he loads up the cavalry and leaves the hostages with two guys, one he can't even really trust. Of course if reality were a concern Marks would have executed Jax when he shot Bobby but then the show would be over.
