Just looking quick on the AHL site, last guy to go over a PPG as a rookie was in 2012-13 was Justin Schultz for the OKC Barons who had 48pts in 34 games.

For someone who played more of a full season, 2011-12 saw Corey Conacher score 80 in 75 and Gustav Nyquist score 58 in 56.

So yes, not very common.
