I know in the past the Flames put players who were not yet solidified on the team in long-term style hotels - something that is basically in between a hotel room and renting an apartment.
I suspect that's what they still do - but that's a mouthful to explain in a sound bite or article - so instead we hear that they have "moved out of a hotel", when in reality that doesn't really reflect the style of accommodations.
