So this happened to me about a month and a half ago on 8th ave.

TLDR: Drunk girl collapsed in tears, homeless dude and I calm her down and I make sure she gets home safe and sound (I did not go up to her place with her).

It was a Friday night at about 10:00 pm and I was standing outside the McDonalds near 3rd enjoying some post drinking grease when this girl (definitely not homeless from the way she was dressed) suddenly collapses in a fit of tears and loud crying about five feet from me. I walked over to her to see what was wrong. A homeless guy in a wheel chair also came over to make sure she was ok.

She was pretty hysterical and I had no idea what was going on (I thought she had had a fight with her boyfriend or other friends, though there were no other people around, or coming up to her). The homeless guy (I eventually learned his name was bad legs Billy, and no, I'm not making that up) was also trying to comfort her. I gave up trying to find out what was wrong and instead tried to get her to a cab. She did want to go home but getting her in a cab proved impossible (I offered to pay in case she didn't have the money for it, but she declined) so instead the three of us (my friend decided he wanted no part of this and had left) started walking up 8th ave towards City Hall, and presumably, where she lived.

We had to stop walking a few times as the police wanted to talk to Billy, as well as some of his homeless friends. Billy told me everyone knew him, and he wasn't wrong. In any case, here we are, a most unusual fellowship of drunk people walking down 8th ave. The girl would stop every ten to fifteen feet to make sure Billy was still doing ok coming along in his wheelchair. Billy clearly didn't trust me alone with this girl and I don't blame him one bit. I was just a random drunk guy afterall and Billy probably knows better than many what can happen on the streets. Eventually he did decide to leave us and the girl and I started walking to her place, or so I thought.

We get to McLeod and I start asking again if she wants a cab. She declines and says she doesn't live far. That's cool so I ask her where she lives and when she finally tells me I start laughing. We've been walking the wrong way the whole time. So we turn around and start walking towards her place. We walk and talk and eventually get to her place. She told me she wasn't going to invite me up to her place and I laughed and said that was absolutely fine, I had zero interest in going up with her. So she gave me a hug, said goodbye and went into her building.

It was all pretty strange to be honest. I just wanted to make sure she got home safe because I know there are a lot of creepy people out there...
