I think that 1 in 1000 may be a very conservative number, when was the last time a guy was seriously injured in a fight that it affected his career? And how many are those incidents involve 230+ lbs guys who can end your career with one punch or were involved in their 10th+ concussion.
Regular guys getting hurt in fight is so rare it seems silly to avoid it. Makes more sense for him to avoid going into corners or anywhere along the boards where he is much more likely to end up with an injury that would affect his career earnings.
