Boy on Ice, Life and Death of Derek Boogaard
Read this book while on vacation, WOW. Much of the early stuff was pretty pedestrian, but the NHL stories will really make you question how the league handles(ed) substance abuse and injury assesment/ disclosure. The recent suspension to Carter Ashton I believe is some fall out for many fialings in the past. I find it easy to say that the league (NHL, NHLPA, Wild and Rangers) failed Derek Boogaard and his family. It really is a good read for such a sad story, and further skews my personal postion on fighting in hockey.
For something lighter and funny I would suggest Journeyman by Sean Pronger which I read as well... Do not recommend "Hockey Night in Dixie" this was a great concept that really fell on its face.
Anyways has anyone else read Boy on Ice? And what did you think?
