Do a major renovation yourself? Unless you have experience how did it turn out well? I've seen work done by professionals who have experience who leave a lot to be desired I can't imagine how it would look if someone had zero experience in tiling, drywall, painting, installing the bath/shower/toilet. Not to mention the electrical and the hundred other surprises that always show up during a renovation.

So please don't do it yourself unless you want it to turn out pretty ugly and are fine with that. Also, when you go to re-sell you might not be able to tell the difference or care but the potential buyer definitely will.
