Look at the Oilers for example - I trade our first ( 12th and on ) for a Hall or Eberle. I know as flames fans we hate that entire squad but either one of those players on a Hartley team are whipped into shape real quick and have talent to boot.
The Oilers then lose one of their initial rebuild players but take 2 picks in the first round this year to go along with Nuge, Yak, Leon. It allows them to fix the poor rebuild and allows the flames to put a competitive team on the ice next year.

Look at this as a potential next years line up - still a very young team where the core will be together for many years yet, IMO, experienced and talented enough to be a playoff team.

Raymond - Monahan - Hudler
Gaudreau - Bennet - Hall
Colborne - Granlund - Byron
Ferland - Bouma - Jooris

Gio - Brodie
Wideman - Russell
Open -Open

Hiller & Ramo

Bollig as the healthy
Leaves a ton of youth and talent in Addy still including Sven.

Glencross, Stajan, Backlund Jones, Seto are extras which can be traded - I bet Stajan gets a late 2nd round pick - Glencross & Backlund an early 2nd round.

And for the grand finish - at the deadline, we trade a bottom 3 team their first round pick for our 2016 first rounder & 4 of this years 2nd rounders. Roll the dice and picking up one of the coveted 2 which would guarantee a couple stanley cups in the next few years
Leaving aside the impossible trade, you need good vets around your youth. Also, Backlund is a keeper IMO, ahead of Hudler. He's also not very old. You'd trade him for an unproven second rounder?
