I'm not going to spend a lot of time commenting in this thread, but I thought that I would say a few things. First of all, Canada doesn't have the population base to create enough competition for a new network. We have a couple of companies that already show a serious bias toward sensationalism, and then the CBC. The existing competitors wouldn't allow a new network to emerge, much like they are suppressing the inclusion of new cell and internet providers. I'm ok with the CBC taking a slight loss on a year to year basis to receive a second viewpoint in relation to news and arts.
As for the Gomeshi thing, I have a little knowledge of what has been occurring, outside of what is being reported so far, and this guy has quite a history as a predator. I wouldn't mind at all seeing the book thrown at him. The discussion is generalized around whether he will given an opportunity in the broadcasting field again, but if enough women come forward to allow the ones who are truly scared to step forward, jail time is a real possibility.
