I posted this in another thread regarding the trade but Smid had played a chunk of games for the Flames (67 and counting IIRC). The fact the Flames got a roster player who is still playing compared to 2 players who at this stage look like they won't hit 25 games combined in an Oiler jersey doesn't exactly help their case for a win.
At the end of the day it is about asset management (something the oilers know little about). Flames traded a player that was being bumped down our depth charts (Ortio passed him and Gillies was in coming down the pipe). What they don't understand is this was a trade from a position of strength because we successfully developed (another concept foreign to the oilers) players.
