“You've gotta tip your hat to Price over there,” said Flames captain Mark Giordano. “He made the saves when they needed them. A few of us, myself probably No. 1, had some really good looks down the stretch and we've gotta find a way to bury one of those. It sucks to lose in a shootout always, but we can't be disappointed with that game.

“They’ve got some young talent over there and they definitely stretched us to the limits,” Price said. “You’ve got to tip your hat to them.”

Gaudreau, in arguably his finest outing as a pro (“From my view, at some points, I was watching him and I was feeling like a fan,” beamed Flames bench boss Bob Hartley), fired six on net. To put that in perspective, he had a total of only four attempts in nine previous outings.

“The story of the game? I think it's quite simple — we just couldn't get that one goal,” Hartley said. “I don't think I can ask for anything more from my guys. What a great game. I think our fans saw a great goalie battle. We just couldn't capitalize on a couple of scoring chances, and that was the difference in the game.
