I was at the game and I thought the Flames played terribly (though not from a lack of effort).
Their breakout was atrocious. No, that's wrong - their breakout was non-existent because the forwards were at the far blue-line looking for the bomb pass all night long. Zero puck support.
Also, their overall passing was as bad as I have ever seen it.
Finally, they fell behind based on two individual plays that really didn't reflect the flow of the game. And once they were behind, the Caps played a really good, shut-down trap, leaving the Flames and their 150 ft passes squarely in no man's land.
The Flames beat themselves in that game.
