I don't buy the "Caps are a more talented team playing well, there's nothing you can do against that" argument. That's plain silly to say in this instance. The Flames weren't playing near their best. The Caps got the breaks early on (when the Flames had the better of the play) then aggressively pursued our guys in the neutral zone while we couldn't get anything started offensively. The third period was our worst, which has been a rarity this year. If we were on our game, it would've been much closer. Also Ramo let in a bad goal early in the third. On other night's that would've been a 2-2 game decided in OT or SO.
I watched that game closely and the impression I got was we were playing our best against a bigger, more talented team. I believe our better than expected start was greatly enhanced by superior goaltending, and the relative rustiness of the better teams. As the season progresses, I think the improvement in the better teams will outpace the Flames, and we will probably drop back in the standings, as a result.
