The Las Vegas Metro area, population around 2 million, is pretty much Clark County, which has an area of more than 20,000 square km, though the vast majority of the population is centred in the Las Vegas Valley, total area, 4,100 square km.
Calgary has a total area of 762 square km.
HOWEVER.
I believe that the combination of a) casinos buying boxes and b) the population of Las Vegas having a pro-sports team to call their own has the potential to be both butts-in-seats popular and lucrative.
The ultimate caveat will be on-ice success. If they Florida Panthers it, they'll be in Quebec City in ten years. If they become the new San Jose Sharks or Anaheim Ducks, they'll be in Vegas, and successful, for 30+ years.
