Default GAME 16 : Riders at STAMPEDERS

AGENDA #1 : Clinch Playoff spot - DONE!
AGENDA #2 : First Place in the Western Conference and a Bye on the Semi-Final - DONE!

Assuring those two agendas are great and the Stamps are just working on Agenda #3 : Stay healthy for the rest of the season, #4. Win the Western Conference Final and the most important agenda : Win the Grey Cup championship in BC.

Stampeders are 13-2 at the moment and clinched first place very early. Last time a team clinched first place this early was in 1989 when the Edmonton Eskimos led by QB Tracy Ham, RB Craig Ellis and former Stamps MLB Danny Bass and coached by Joe Faragalli ended up winning 16 games in a season. Stampeders best season in the CFL was 15-3 record during Wally Buono's days in 93 to 95. Are the Stamps capable of winning the rest of their games and end up with 16-2 record for the season? I say yes but I hope they stay healthy.

Last season as we all know, Stamps lost our 2 DLine Micah Johnson and Demonte Bolden plus SB Marquay McDaniel in a meaningless game vs BC. Stamps then ended up losing the Finals to the Riders. I am sure Stampeders will not let history repeat itself. Mind you those same 3 players we lost last season haven't played for a few games now and I don't think they will play before the season end.

OFFENSE :

QB Bo Levi Mitchell in his first game back after the injuries started off hot last game against the Blue Bombers throwing 2 TD passes in the first half. Not sure if it is if coincidence but both receivers who caught TDs are out of the game today vs the Riders. WR Brad Sinopli who caught a 21 yard TD pass went down with the injury after that TD catch and will be gone for the season. WR Joe West who caught a 51 TD pass got nicked last game vs Bombers and will sit out today's game. It is a meaningless game so I guess that is the right choice resting Joe West. WR Eric Rogers who's been in practice roster will replace him in the lineup. Rogers is another tall receiver for the Stamps. He is 6'3". RB Jon Cornish, the leading rusher in the CFL at the moment rushed 21 times for 160 yards and 1 TD vs Bombers will sit out in this game as well. RB Matt Walter will be the starting RB tonight. I just hope he stays the whole game. Last time he took the starting RB position a few games ago, he only played a few downs then left the game. WR Anthony Parker who caught 8 times for 71 yards and rushed once for 12 yards will be one of the two Canadian receivers left in the lineup. The other is Jabari Arthur but the Stamps brought back Chris Bauman but he won't suit up tonight.
Last time Stamps played the Riders two games ago, Drew Tate was the starting QB and he went 16 for 29 for 194 yards 2 TD and 1 INT. Tate was okay in the first half and can't really fault for the Riders' comeback which they almost stole the win. WR Maurice Price caught 6 times for 79 yards, while WR/PR/KR Sederrick Cunningham had 210 all-purposes yardages that game (28 receiving, 106 kickoff return and 76 punt return).

DEFENSE :

With Charleston Hughes gone for a few games already, DE Shawn Lemon took the leadership and has been playing well. Last game he recorded 1 qb sack, 2 tackles and 1 forced fumble. The game vs the Riders he recorded 2 sacks, 3 tackles and 1 forced fumble. MLB Juwan Simpson was a beast against the Riders recording 7 tackles and 1 qb sack. Jamar Wall against the Riders had 8 tackles and 1 INT. DB Brandon Smith recorded the most tackles for Stamps defense with 7 last game vs Blue Bombers. On both games, defense played really well in the first half but they lacked killer instinct and let the opponents come back in the game. Defense need to play consistently the rest of the season and the playoff. I am sure they were thinking of all the mistakes they made last game against the Riders and they will not let that happen again. So Kerry Joseph, watch out OLD MAN!!

SPECIAL TEAM :

K Rene Paredes kicked a lot better last game vs the Bombers which is a good thing. He had a bad game vs the Riders the game before with 0 for 3 FG attempt. It is getting scary that he might be start to lose confidence in himself. Maybe that bounced back last game will help his confidence back.

GAME TIME : Tonight(Friday, Oct 24) 7:30pm at McMahon Stadium
TELEVISED : TSN

GO STAMPS GO!!!
