He was apparently living in a Vancouver "rooming house" at the time of his offences in BC.
A psych assessment was ordered in his case and he was found fit for trial.
Both of those things, along with his drug past, suggest he was a down-and-out type of guy with mental health issues (the very fact a psych assessment was ordered implies mental health problems, regardless of its outcome).
