Yeah I don't recall anyone calling Brodie a bust. The expectation wasn't there to call him a bust imo. I think many had his ceiling (myself included) as a second pairing d-man. I do remember some questioning Playfair's "reputation" as a great developer of defensemen as no one was really making the jump. Brodie is the exception from that era, not just where he is now, but that he made it to the show at all. So many D-men disappointments but at least one has seemingly turned into a home run.
