The recent contracts to defencemen have been a little more cap friendly, but are not the best comparables, as Brodie is giving up more UFA years in this deal
Muzzin = 5 years @4M per
Brodin = 6 years @4.167M per
Those would be the two contracts Brodie is being compared to, but it is not the fairest comparison, as Muzzin is a good 2nd pairing defenceman and Brodin is signed over more RFA years
