I went to school with a girl who was involved in something similar.
(Had an affair, got pregnant, had baby, chopped up and buried baby - got caught).
She was out in 9 months despite admitting to lying in 6 of 10 police interviews (only in the last interview did she suggest the father was involved, supposedly the police directed her to say that).
The father/partner is in jail for life. From most reports he was found guilty on circumstantial evidence and wasn't even aware of the baby until the police were knocking on his door.
So, yeah, the system isn't always just. He shouldn't be in jail for the crimes she committed and yet she is out and free to move on with her life.
